Born in a poor family, Prof. Bala fought against all odds to complete his education and joined the Indian army as a sepoy, and retired as a subedar after 28 years of service to the nation. Late. Prof. Dr. (Col) A. Balasubramanian joined the India Army as a sepoy and retired after 28 years of service to the nation. Post retirement from army, Prof. Bala immersed himself in building world class education ecosystems. Prof Bala was the first Indian from the Armed Forces in the history of India to be conferred the Honorary Rank of Colonel after retirement for his valuable services to defence personnels and their dependants in the education sector. Standing tall with him on this exclusive dais are famous sportsmen like Kapil Dev, Sachin Tendulkar, Abhinav Bindra, Mahender Singh Dhoni, and the famous actor Mohanlal.
A soldier by heart and a warrior by soul, Late. Prof. Dr. (Col.) A. Balasubramanian was also a trainer, a consultant, a gifted writer, an author, and the pioneer who conceived the idea of creating the first Post Graduate Management Institute in India exclusively for the Defence Personnel and their dependents. Also, his contributions had been instrumental in setting up the Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies (SIMS).

Dr. (Col.) A. Balasubramanian, the Founder President and Chancellor of Sri Balaji University, Pune. Prof. Bala was a triple Post Graduate and a rare personality known for his creative approach and making history in the field of education. Born in a poor farmer’s family, he ran away from home to join an orphanage to complete his education till High School. Later he joined the Indian Army and served there for about 28 years and retired as a Subedar. During his service with Army, he acquired three post-graduate degrees with flying colours. He was a classic example of courage, commitment and intimate relationship with the corporate world.

Sri Balaji Society (SBS) was established in the year 1998 by Late Prof. Dr. (Col) A. Balasubramanian; was also the Founder and Chancellor of Sri Balaji University Pune (SBUP). Sri Balaji Society shifted to its present location in Tathwade, Pune in the year 2006. It is the dedication and vision of the Founder and Chancellor which helped the Institute achieve the status of a University in 2019.
